Alum and Auntie Annie's a are among only a few holiday homes in this idyllic and famous location. In this picturesque setting both cottages nestle perfectly beneath Cowbar, which is part of the heritage coastline. The stunning views will make you want to return time and time again. A few steps over the bridge and you are onto the cobbled streets of Staithes High Street. These are just some of the reasons why these cottages appears in famous photographs, paintings and postcards.
How did Auntie Annie's & Alum Cottage get their names
In Auntie Annie's, the converted attic room of this cottage was where Auntie Annie Parkinson worked until her mid 90's and made her quilts, one of which can be seen in the musuem.
Auntie Annie's has been extensively improved and decorated throughout in July 2009.
Alum Cottage was first used to store Alum mined in the area, then later as a fisherman's warehouse before being skillfully converted to the surprisingly spacious and attractive cottage it is today.(awaiting pictures of interior)
